No matter how old we are, it seems that we are collectively disconnected from ourselves. Society tells us we need to fit in and although that standard is being dismantled, a lot of us were never taught how to love ourselves for who we are. I want to remind you that no matter how you’re raised, where you come from, or how old you are, it’s never too late to find and connect with the highest version of yourself. There is a saying in Latin, “Omne Trium Perfectum,” which means everything that comes in threes is perfect— so I present you with my three step guide. Take everything with a grain of salt, we are all learning how to navigate life in these flesh vessels.
With the pressures of society to fit in, we are forced into a box. The first step to finding yourself is to spend some time alone in nature. I know nature isn’t available to some of us but even a fifteen minute walk can help boost your mood. Sometimes a little fresh air is all we need. When we spend time alone with ourselves we aren’t influenced by the opinions of others. Nature adds the element of peace and takes away the distractions of day to day life. Ever wonder why you feel recharged after spending time outdoors? It’s because Mother Earth is proven to boost serotonin and dopamine levels. In turn, as we take it all in, we connect to our higher selves.
A lot of us may be people-pleasers. We tolerate the opinions of others, even if it disrespects us, because we want to be accepted. In order to fully embody your highest self, the second step is to only surround yourself with like-minded individuals who uplift you. I cannot stress this step enough! Finding your community is so important. As humans we need connection but most of us will tolerate toxic behavior just to have someone. If we get to step two and feel that we still need another person in order to feel complete, revert back to step one. If we are not comfortable alone with ourselves, we will always be searching for happiness outside of us. Community is a huge aspect, but we cannot depend on it. Once you’ve mastered spending time with yourself, creating a community that aligns with your values feels simple. As you continue to find your people you begin to set your authentic self free, which leads me into step three.
Showing up as your authentic self is the best way to connect to your higher self. Being authentic and embodying our own unique qualities leads to confidence and peace. I find that exploring different hobbies, trying new things and keeping an open mind allows me to genuinely show up for myself. Like I said earlier, we’re used to being put into a box. We’re told what to like and what not to, so when we decide where our energy goes it’s the purest form of connection to our higher selves.
It’s not an easy journey and there are few who choose the path of self-awareness. I believe when you take these three steps and apply them to everyday life you’ll start to feel more at home with yourself. Don’t be hard on yourself and take the process slow. Remember, nature will always be there and your tribe is waiting for you. Most importantly, learning who you are and letting that version of yourself shine will set you free. Your highest self is calling and I hope you take the steps in order to meet them.
Goodluck on the journey!
